Dumpster Rental in Norwood Park

The most suburban corner of the city — irregular streets, bigger lots, attached garages and driveways, and almost none of the alley constraints that define the rest of our work.

The most suburban corner of the city

Norwood Park does not look or behave like the rest of Chicago. The street grid gives way to curving and diagonal streets around the old settlement, the lots are larger, houses sit back from the road, and attached garages and proper driveways are normal rather than exceptional.

For a container that means almost everything happens on private ground. No public way permit, no alley width question, no neighbour negotiation about garage access. We size by what is going in the box, which on this site is a rarity.

A 20 or 30 yard is straightforward on most properties here. If a city-wide rule of thumb has pushed you towards something small, it does not apply in this neighbourhood.

Three eras of housing, three different answers

The housing here spans a wider range than most Chicago neighbourhoods, and the era decides the container more than the project does.

The oldest stock, around the original settlement, is pre-war frame and masonry with plaster over lath. Dense debris, weight before volume, smaller container with a swap.

The bungalows and 1920s housing behave exactly as they do across the Bungalow Belt — attics full of a century of storage, plaster walls, and the same attic-and-dormer projects coming up now.

The post-war ranches, split-levels and later infill are drywall, which is light and compacts, so volume is the limit and a larger container earns its space. A split-level remodel here can sensibly take a 30 where the same job in a greystone would take a 20 with swaps.

One answer on the phone — roughly when was it built — moves you between three different recommendations, which is why we ask it first.

Trees, irregular streets and the long driveway

The things that make this neighbourhood pleasant are the things that occasionally complicate a delivery, and all three are worth a thirty-second check before you ring.

The canopy. Mature trees over driveways and kerb lines are the single most common reason a delivery here gets replanned. A roll-off needs roughly twenty-three feet of vertical clearance to tip a container off the truck, and an old oak over a drive does not give it. Stand where you want the container and look straight up.

The street layout. Norwood Park's diagonal and curving streets mean some properties sit on corners or bends where a truck needs more room to line up than the frontage suggests. It is rarely a problem but it is occasionally a surprise.

Driveway length and surface. A long drive is fine as long as the truck can get back out, and a drive that curves between mature trees can be tight even with plenty of space at the end. Boards go down as standard on a residential delivery; if your drive was sealed recently, say so and we will talk about placement.

Winter is comparatively easy here precisely because placement is on private ground — no posted route reaches your own driveway, and frozen ground carries a loaded container well.

Placement

Where the container goes in Norwood Park

In Norwood Park it is usually your own driveway or side drive. Private property needs no public way permit anywhere in Chicago, which makes this one of the simpler parts of the city to deliver into. We can size by the job rather than by the space. More on permits and placement →

Norwood Park · common questions

What people in Norwood Park ask us

Is this neighbourhood really easier than the rest of the city?

Yes, and noticeably. Larger lots, real driveways and attached garages mean almost everything happens on private ground — no permit, no alley width question, no neighbour negotiation. A 20 or 30 yard is straightforward.

What decides the size here?

The era of the house. Pre-war means plaster and a weight-limited container. Bungalow means the usual attic-and-dormer projects. Post-war ranch or split-level means drywall, which compacts, so a larger container earns its space.

The driveway runs under old trees.

The most common reason a delivery here gets replanned. We need about 23 feet of vertical clearance to tip a container off the truck. Stand where you want it and look straight up.

My street curves and the house is on a bend.

Worth mentioning. The diagonal and curving streets here occasionally mean a truck needs more room to line up than the frontage suggests. It is rarely a problem and occasionally a surprise.
