Dumpster Rental in Humboldt Park
Two-flats, three-flats and greystones around the park, with rehab pressure rolling in from the east and older buildings being opened up block by block.

Humboldt Park is being worked on unevenly, and that is the most useful thing to understand about delivering here. The blocks nearest the east side have had rehab pressure for years; a few streets west, buildings are still largely as they were. On a single block you can have a finished gut rehab, a building mid-project and one that has not been touched since the 1960s.
For us that means we cannot assume the alley from the neighbourhood the way we can in Portage Park. Alley condition, how many other contractors are working the block, and whether there is already a container back there vary street by street. Giving us the cross streets rather than just the address is worth more here than almost anywhere.
The building stock itself is consistent: two-flats, three-flats and greystones, pre-war, plaster over lath. The sizing logic follows from that and it is the usual one — weight before volume.
The park, the boulevards and placement near them
The park and the boulevard system that runs off it are the organising features of this neighbourhood, and they affect placement for properties that front onto them.
A boulevard is not an ordinary street. The character is different, the rules are different, and a container in a boulevard curb lane is a more conspicuous proposition than one on a side street a block away. Where a property fronts the boulevard we will steer towards the alley behind it without much hesitation, and the alleys back there are generally workable.
Near the park itself there is also seasonal traffic to think about. Summer weekends bring real volume to the streets around it, and a container placement that is fine on a Tuesday can be genuinely awkward on a July Saturday. If you have flexibility on the delivery day, midweek is better here than it is in most of the city.
As everywhere, the alley needs about twenty-three feet of vertical clearance and sixty feet of straight run, and the overhead lines back there sag lower mid-span than they look from the ground.
Two-flats, and the deconversion that is really a demolition
The characteristic job here is a two-flat or three-flat being opened up — either a straight gut rehab or a deconversion back to fewer units. Both produce more plaster than people plan for.
The number worth holding onto: a 20 yard container reaches its legal travelling weight on plaster and lath while it still looks around two-thirds full. That is not us being cautious. An overloaded container cannot legally be lifted onto the truck, so it stays in your alley until somebody levels it by hand, which on a working site is a lost morning.
So the standard answer on these buildings is a 20 yard with swaps planned from the start rather than a 30 that may not fit the alley and will not come out full anyway. Tell us at booking how many containers you think the job needs and we will schedule the run.
Before the destructive phase, pull the cast-iron radiators, the copper and the brass. A three-flat yields a real tonnage of metal, it has its own route, and on a permitted job it counts towards the city's recycling requirement by weight. Once it is in the mixed container, none of that applies.
Where the container goes in Humboldt Park
In Humboldt Park it is usually the alley behind the building. Alley placement is public way, so the dumpster permit is ours to hold under the city code rather than yours to chase. What we need from you is the cross streets, so we can check the width, the surface and what is overhead before the truck is committed. More on permits and placement →

Why do you want the cross streets rather than the address?
Because this neighbourhood is being worked on unevenly. Alley condition, how many other contractors are on the block and whether there is already a container back there vary street by street here more than almost anywhere.
What size for a three-flat gut?
A 20 yard with swaps planned from the start. A 20 reaches its legal travelling weight on plaster while it still looks two-thirds full, and a 30 may not fit the alley and will not come out full anyway.
My building fronts the boulevard.
We will steer towards the alley behind it. A boulevard is not an ordinary street and a container in that curb lane is conspicuous in a way it is not a block away.
Is there a better day of the week?
Midweek, if you have the flexibility. Summer weekends bring real traffic to the streets around the park, and a placement that is fine on a Tuesday can be awkward on a July Saturday.
