Dumpster Rental in Garfield Ridge
Bungalows and ranches near Midway, with driveways, side drives and garages that make this one of the easier parts of the city to deliver into.
(619) 658-9555Southwest Side · 60638Side drives, and why that changes the whole job
Garfield Ridge has something most of the city does not: a side drive on a large share of its properties, running from the street past the house to a garage at the back. Not the narrow bungalow strip — an actual drive, wide enough to put a container on without anybody getting a tape out.
That makes this one of the easiest parts of Chicago to deliver into, and it removes the permit question entirely for most jobs. Private ground needs no public way permit, so a container on your own side drive is simply a delivery.
It also means we can size by the job rather than by the space, which is a luxury on this site. A 20 yard is routine here. If you have been steered towards a 10 by somebody applying a general city rule, that rule does not apply on a Garfield Ridge side drive.
Living under the Midway approach
The airport is the defining feature of this neighbourhood and it shows up in the housing in a way that produces work for us.
A great many properties here have been through sound-insulation programmes — replacement windows, added attic insulation, sometimes modified ventilation. When an owner comes to remodel, what comes out is therefore not always the original building fabric but a later intervention laid over it, and that is a different debris mix: modern window units, blown or batt insulation in quantity, and ductwork, on top of the pre-war or post-war structure underneath.
Insulation is the one to plan for. It is voluminous rather than heavy, it needs bagging rather than loose loading because it blows straight out of an open container, and a whole-attic removal fills more of a box than its weight suggests. If the job includes stripping insulation, say so — it moves the sizing up even though the weight does not.
Window replacement is the other common job, and glass units are heavier than people expect. A whole-house replacement on a bungalow is comfortably a 10 yard on its own.
Bungalows, ranches and a straightforward alley
The housing splits between pre-war bungalows and post-war ranches and capes, which means the first question is the same one we ask in Jefferson Park: how old is the house.
Bungalow means plaster over lath, which is dense, does not compact, and reaches a container's weight limit before its volume. Ranch means drywall, which is light and compacts, so volume is the limit and a larger container genuinely earns its space.
Garages are a steady job here and worth flagging because people routinely try to do it with one container. The structure — framing, siding, roofing, the old door — is bulky and light and goes in a 20. The slab is a separate clean 10, because concrete goes to a different facility and one bag of rubbish re-classifies the load. Two containers, always. More on clean fill →
The alleys here are standard width, mostly in decent condition, and straightforward to work. Between those and the side drives, this is a neighbourhood where placement is rarely the hard part.

Can I put a container on my side drive?
Almost certainly. A real side drive is normal here rather than exceptional, which makes this one of the easiest parts of the city to deliver into — and private ground needs no permit at all.
The house has been through the airport sound-insulation programme.
Then expect replacement windows, a lot of added insulation and sometimes ductwork on top of the original fabric. Insulation is voluminous rather than heavy and needs bagging, because it blows straight out of an open container.
Garage demolition — one container or two?
Two, always. The structure goes in a 20; the slab needs its own clean 10, because concrete goes to a different facility and one bag of rubbish re-classifies the load.
Bungalow or ranch — does it change the size?
Yes. Bungalow means plaster, which weight-limits the container. Ranch means drywall, which compacts, so volume is the limit and a bigger box genuinely earns its space.
